Hi! In theory it's officially spring, but in practice it is not. Below zero today, with a super cold wind and flurries. After an hour of braving the elements for the sake of Peg, I spent a large chunk of my day off watching episodes of The Hour and knitting another pair of socks. I'm really enjoying this show so far! I'm super into anything that's British, drama filled, with some crime/mystery. This one's set in the 50s, and that is most excellent. It's on Netflix, you should watch it.

Here are some more photos of my pysanka eggs that I made last week. Well, the ones that survived that is.

This one's actually Erick's. He went for a more abstract approach. He doesn't like it, but I do!

The back of Erick's egg.

On Wednesday I made another egg during Craft Night at NW. Unfortunately I dropped it on the table. Fortunately only the back cracked.

The hole in the back allows me to hang it on the wall! So all was not lost.

After my marathon of The Hour, I finally started some of my vegetable seeds. Just kale and some lettuce. Others I plan to direct seed once it's warm enough, and some plants I'll buy as starts later in the season (tomatoes from Tree and Twig for sure!).

My mum got me this big 10-year gardener's journal for Christmas this year. It helps keep track of what plants you bought, when you planted them, how they faired, etc. Fun!

Hopefully the weather will warm up soon!

weekend.

It was the last weekend of the school year. I'm done on Thursday.

1. The zinnia and tomato seedlings are up.
3. Sookie confused by the falling snow. It's spring for goodness sake! Just stop already.
4. A roast chicken for dinner. Chicken soup all weekend.
5. I normally only buy berries when they're in season. But this winter had been too long. I gave in, and had some with my breakfast.
6. Homework galore.

signs of spring: a seedy saturday at the dining room table.

On Saturday, Erick and I paid a visit to William Dam Seeds in Flamborough to pick up a few more packets of seeds, some soil, and peat pots. Neither of us had ever started seeds indoors before, so it was an exciting adventure. Dam Seeds is great, I wanted to buy everything! Flowers and vegetables alike! I'm looking forward to the day we have our own home and free reign of the garden.

We have a bunch of seeds already, but we picked up some more tomato and lettuce seeds, as well as more zinnia and craspedia seeds for the wedding. My mum already started some, but I wanted to get some more to be safe. Better too many than too few!

I'm insanely excited for this summer for so many reasons. Wedding prep (fun for me)! Cottage weekends! Biking around the city! Beehive crafty adventures! Picnics! Canning! Wedding! Honeymoon! And a new endeavor: farming!!! We were invited to participate in a super awesome community farming intiative that has been going on just north of Hamilton for the past couple of years. Jane and Hollie have blogged about it on Love It A Lot a fair bit. Gary's parents have a stall at the farmer's market, and a farm near Waterdown. A group of awesome young Hamiltonians have been sharing the work involved in growing food there. They go when they can to plant the seeds, weed, harvest, etc. In exchange for the work, everyone can bring home veggies to eat and preserve. The remaining produce is sold at the farmer's market or at pop-up markets at Art Crawls. This year there are going to be beehives too! And adventures with new crops.

I'm so so SO excited!
