So this is my third year doing the whole IDS, Come up to my Room, Made, etc. tour. Not living in Toronto and trying to jam pack seeing all these things in one or two days is usually mildly exhausting. This year was no exception. It is always inspiring though, and I loved seeing the work of some friends who graduated from Sheridan last year like Dylan McKinnon and Jean Willoughby. Dylan is probably one of the nicest guy you'll ever meet, and his furniture is simple and refined, yet "quietly humorous". He made the dining chair and table in the first picture, and the round table above. Jean is so impressive too, especially in her use of materials. You might recognize her concrete/walnut side table from the new Marilyn Denis show, or from a big spread in the Globe in Mail last week. Go Jean! Go Sheridan grads! Sometimes I miss furniture. But then I remember all the math and dust and sanding and spinning blades and appreciate the general lack of that in textiles.
